Backpacking the John Muir Trail with Riley Smith
Show Notes

Riley Smith talks with me about making the transition from day hiker to backpacker, backpacking basics, international hiking experiences and what it was like to thru hike the John Muir Trail (JMT). We chat about permits, water crossings, resupply, hiking tips and his favorite section of the JMT.

The JMT is 211 miles long and runs (mostly in conjunction with the PCT) from Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney, in California. The trail goes through the Sierra Nevada and passes through what are considered some of the most beautiful places of America's National Park and Public Lands: Yosemite, John Muir and Ansel Adams Wildernesses, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks.

Riley also talks about why he started his Broken Laces podcast, completing his first season and what is next for him - both for hiking and the show.
